Creating a LinkedIn Learning Assignment in CI Learn

As of Spring 2024, LinkedIn Learning is now integrated into CI Learn/Canvas. This integration allows instructors to add content from LinkedIn Learning into their CI Learn courses as graded assignments. With LinkedIn Learning assignments, grades are automatically passed back to Canvas once a LinkedIn Learning course has been completed. Upon completing a LinkedIn Learning course/assignment, full points will be entered in the grade book.

To add a LinkedIn Learning course as a CI Learn/Canvas assignment:

  1. Navigate to the Assignments page of your course.
  2. Click the + Assignment button.

  4. Set the points possible for the assignment, assignment group, and “Display Grade as,” options as you need. Remember, upon completing a LinkedIn Learning course/assignment, full points will be entered in the grade book.
  5. Click the Submission Type dropdown and select the External Tool option.

  9. Check the Videos or Course options on the left side as desired. If you want your students to only watch one video for this assignment, then tick the Videos box. On the other hand, if you want your students to watch a series of videos (known as a Course), then tick the Courses box.

Note: A single video can be used in an Assignment and it will report to the gradebook; however, the entire course will still be loaded into the Assignment, even though it is not required for students to watch the entire course.
  10. Click Add on the LinkedIn course that you’d like to assign.

  11. Click Confirm at the bottom of the page.

  12. Select the Load in a new tab option if you’d like. It’s completely up to you but may result in a better experience for learners who are accessing the assignment on a mobile device. However, Loading the tool in a new tab will take the learner to the actual LinkedIn website with all of the other LinkedIn content, which may be distracting for the learner. Click the Select button.

  13. Set any date options that you’d to apply to your assignment and then click Save & Publish at the bottom of the screen.

  14. If you opted for the assignment to load in a new tab, click the “Load [your LinkedIn Learning course title] in a new window.” If you didn’t select that option, your LinkedIn Learning course will appear here.
