Camtasia is a powerful screen capture tool and video editor that allows you to create high-quality recordings for your educational media-related needs. Camtasia is available for free download to students, staff, and faculty at CI via CSUCI’s OntheHub site. Please note that this guide is only intended for CSU Channel Islands faculty and staff. If you are not a member of CSUCI, please visit the TechSmith website in order to purchase and download Camtasia.
Downloading Camtasia Software Steps for Onthehub
- Log in to the CSUCI Onthehub link using your campus single sign-on ID and password. This will take you to the main Onthehub Webpage.
- Go over to the top menu of the Onthehub page under the “Product Search” Box and click on the TechSmith tab to be taken to the Techsmith products available through Onthehub. Click on the Camtasia icon to be taken to its individual product page.
- This will take you to the Camtasia Product Page. This page will contain the most recent version of Camtasia available to CSU Channel Islands faculty, staff, and students.
- Head down to the “Choose a Platform” dropdown menu and select the operating, either Windows or Mac, for the computer that you will be installing Camtasia on.
- Click the Add to Cart button below the dropdown menu.
- This will open up a pop-up window that will alert you that Camtasia has been added to your shopping cart. Click on the “Check Out” button to be taken to the Check Out Window.
- In the Check Out Window, check out by filling out your contact information and proceed to the order details page. Once you are done filling out your information, click on the “Proceed With Order” Button at the bottom of the page to be taken to the Download Window.
- From the Download Window, you will be provided a download link and licensing key. Make sure to copy and paste the licensing key somewhere safe and click on the “Download” button to get either the camtasia.exe (Windows) or camtasia.dmg (Mac) file downloaded onto your computer.
Finding Your Licensing Key or Camtasia Installation Application After Downloading
- If you lose track of your licensing key after the download process or need to install Camtasia on your computer again, head over to CSUCI’s OntheHub site and sign in with your campus single sign-on credentials.
- Locate and click on the drop-down arrow icon next to “Hello, your name” at the top of the Main OnTheHub Webpage. Select “Your Account/Orders” from the dropdown menu options.
- This will pull up a list of your software orders from OnTheHub, find your most recent Camtasia order, and select the “View Details” button to be taken to a page where you can view your licensing key and download the Camtasia application again if needed.
Installing Camtasia on Mac and PC
- Find either the .exe or .dmg file on your computer and click on it to begin the installation process. Follow the installation instructions and use your new licensing key when prompted by the installer.
Permissions for Mac Users
- If you are a Mac-based user, you will be presented with the System Permissions Screen after installing Camtasia which will ask you to enable hardware and software features in order to run Camtasia. If you are using a Mac that has been provided to your by the campus and do not have the appropriate administrative access, you will have to file a ticket with ITS through their solution center in order to install and use Camtasia fully.
